Ways to make words plural

1. Add S: (S சேர்த்தல்)

i) Most of the time, just add S  

Scoop   s = scoops, cone    s = cones.

2. Add ES: (ES சேர்த்தல்)

i) If you hear the sound of /iz/ at the end of the plural word, use ES

Dish   es = dishes, Dress   es = dresses, Box   es = boxes

This happens when a word ends in S, X, SH, or CH

3. Words ending in Y: (Y ல் முடியும் வார்த்தைகள்)

i) If the word ends in a consonant plus Y, change the Y to I and add es:

Cherry - y   i   es = cherries, puppy - y   i   es = puppies

ii) If the word in a vowel plus Y (such as ay, ey, oy) just add S

Day   s = days, Monkey   s = monkeys

4. Words ending in O: (O வில் முடியும் வார்த்தைகள்)

i) If the word ends in a vowel plus O, add S

Pistachio    s = pistachios, Stereo   s = stereos

ii) If the word ends in a consonant plus O, add S or ES

Hero   es = heroes, Piano   s = pianos

5. In the most words ending in F or FE, change the F or FE to V and add ES: )(F, FE போன்ற எழுத்துகளில் முடிபவை)

Loaf - f   v   es = loaves, Knife - fe   v   es = knives

i) Some words ending in F don't change. Such as the word chefs. For words ending in FF, just add S as in puffs and cliffs.

6. Irregular plurals: (மற்ற விதிவிலக்கானவைகள்)

i) Some words don't follow the regular patterns for making plurals. These are called irregular plurals.

Child - children, tooth - teeth, goose - geese, mouse - mice.

ii) Some words stay the same whether they are singular or plural.

Ice, deer.
